You’re Engaged! Now What?

First Things to Do After Saying “Yes” (That Aren’t Booking a Venue)

Cue the confetti — you’re engaged!

Maybe it was a surprise. Maybe you planned it together. Maybe there was a photographer hiding in the bushes or maybe you celebrated with fast food and a cozy night in. However it happened, you’re officially in it — and that’s worth celebrating.

But after the initial glow… most couples have one big question:

What the heck are we supposed to do next?

Don’t worry — we’ve got you.
Here are a few simple, joyful steps to take right after you get engaged, before the to-do lists and vendor calls start rolling in.

01. Soak It In

There’s no rush.
Spend the weekend just calling each other “fiancé” and smiling a little too much.
Take photos. Don’t take photos. Just be in the moment.

Pro Tip: Journal what happened. Even if you’re not a writer, a few notes in your phone will help you remember how it all felt later.

02. Tell Your People (Your Way)

Whether you shout it from the rooftops or keep it quiet for a few days, there’s no wrong way to share your news. But we do recommend this order:

  • Immediate Family
  • Close Friends
  • Social Media (if you’re into that)

If you want to go extra sweet: do a little FaceTime tour or share the story over coffee with your inner circle first. Those moments are priceless.

03. Do Something to Celebrate

You don’t need a party.
Just do something that marks the moment:

  • Champagne + takeout
  • A weekend away
  • A dinner date where you don’t talk about planning at all

04. Create Your Wedding Email + Drive Folder

Yes, REALLY — this is our only type-A step on this particular list.
You’ll thank yourself later.

Set up a shared Gmail address (ex: smithsandersonwedding@gmail.com) and a shared Google Drive folder. It’ll keep everything organized and out of your personal inboxes.

05. Dream a Little

Open a shared Pinterest board. Make a new photo album. Start collecting anything that catches your eye. This step is not to plan anything formally, just to get inspired.

You’ll start to see common threads in what you love, and that will help you build your vision confidently later on.

You don’t need to dive into planning right away.
